Looking to meet new people or get some time away from a rigorous study schedule? Look no further than IU’s student organizations! The initial callouts may be over for many of these student groups, but the vast majority will take members with interest at any point. In other words, with some communication, you can jump right in!

Some highlights from the student organizations page with recent activity include:

  • Alzheimer’s Student Alliance
    • Our organization seeks to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and raise funds for research and support. Volunteers play an invaluable role in community education, building a foundation for a well informed and involved society, and clinical engagement, establishing vital connections between patients and the resources and support available for them, thereby helping those afflicted with the disease, their caregivers, and their families.

  • American Medical Women’s Association
    • The American Medical Women’s Association fosters an enriching, empowering, and supportive environment for women in science and the medical field. We aim to give back to the community through a variety of events which also include spreading awareness about women’s health issues.

  • Goldleaf Growers
    • Goldleaf Growers is the first hydroponics focused growing club at IU. Members will work with the Bloomington community to distribute produce and educate and promote different groups on hydroponic practices. Members will also work with the Goldleaf hydroponics store to run hydroponics systems, apply for grants, and connect with other hydroponic growers. This organization focuses on sustainability and food independence, with an interest in environmentally friendly growing practices.

  • ICAN Service Dogs
    • We are a group of students with a mission to educate, fundraise, and volunteer with the Indiana Canine Assistant Network (ICAN). ICAN focuses not only on the service dogs in the program but on the individuals involved in this process. The dogs in the program undergo specialized training for the purpose of maximizing the skills necessary to be a successful service dog. They are then carefully paired with disabled individuals to offer a more independent lifestyle. Students can not only fund raise and volunteer with close association to the program but also potentially get involved with the rearing of the dogs.

  • STEM Outreach
    • STEM Outreach at Indiana University collaborates with Fairview Elementary School and Girls Inc to provide Kindergarten through 6th graders the opportunity to learn topics related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on, engaging activities. We strive to become role models for these children and to ignite their passion for learning, especially as it relates to STEM fields, from an early age. We welcome volunteers of any major.

  • Student Nurse Volunteer Corps
    • The Student Nurse Volunteer Corps at Indiana University is a student organization created for nursing students, with opportunities extended to students in other healthcare-related fields of study and pre-professional programs. The intent of the organization is to create opportunities for nursing students to volunteer and make an impact in the community where they live and study, while gaining valuable experience in healthcare and related fields. The focus of the organization on students in healthcare related fields validates the actions and qualifications of volunteer corps members and enables them to plan and implement programs and activities throughout Bloomington and surrounding communities.
